We're pleased to announce that Wairarapa Wool Weekend has selected Hospice Wairarapa as the local charity to partner with for this event. What this means is that there will be fundraising and other initiatives for Hospice Wairarapa during Wairarapa Wool Weekend as well as opportunities for everyone to learn more about the important work they do in our community.

Squares for Comfort
One of our initiatives is called Squares for Comfort. We will be asking for donations of crafted squares, knitted or crocheted, (20x20cm) which we will then sew together to create lap rugs which will be gifted to Hospice Wairarapa clients. We want to come together as a community of crafters to wrap these people in comfort and love. Any squares that you can craft and donate will be gratefully received. Let your imagination run with stitch patterns and colours, you may even want to add embroidered detail. In advance of the event, collection points for the crafted squares of comfort will be set up in the Joy of Yarn store in Greytown and at Hospice Wairarapa stores. Squares will also be collected at the registration desk during Wairarapa Wool Weekend.
James from Joy of Yarn has pledged to donate $1 for each square received, up to a maximum of $500, to Hospice Wairarapa.
Yarn-Go-Round
Another is Yarn-Go-Round. We will be asking for donations of yarn from your stash which is no longer wanted. As with the Squares for Comfort, collection points will be available from February 1st at the Joy of Yarn store in Greytown and Hospice Wairarapa stores. There will be a table in the Traders Hall where the donated yarn will be available for sale with all proceeds going to Hospice Wairarapa. It's a fantastic way to move on yarn you no longer want or need and you might even find temptation in other donated yarn to then restock your stash. It's a type of yarn recycling... for a good cause.
Te Hūpēnui Beanie
To add to the sense of community for Wairarapa Wool Weekend we have created Te Hūpēnui Beanie.
In keeping with the community spirit $1.00 from the sale price of each pattern, and $5.00 from the sale price of each kit purchased from Joy of Yarn will be donated to Hospice Wairarapa.
